Stari Grad’s harbour is the point where most passengers arrive on Hvar island by ferry from Split — and it’s also the fastest departure point back to the mainland. Our speedboat crosses from Stari Grad to Makarska in around 30 minutes, making it the shortest crossing back from the island and a significant improvement on the 2-hour car ferry to Split.
The route heads directly across the Hvar Channel, with the island’s limestone interior behind you and the Biokovo massif rising ahead on the mainland coast. It’s one of the most distinctive approaches in the Adriatic: the mountain drops almost vertically to the water’s edge, and Makarska sits at its base.
