Biševo
Home of the legendary Blue Cave — one of the Adriatic's greatest natural wonders
Why visit
Why Biševo by Boat?
Biševo is a tiny, near-deserted island southwest of Vis, famous above all for the Modra Špilja — the Blue Cave. At midday, sunlight refracts through an underwater entrance and fills the cave with an otherworldly electric-blue glow, casting everything silver and cyan. It is one of the most remarkable natural spectacles in the Mediterranean. Beyond the cave, Biševo has a handful of secluded pebble coves, crystal-clear water, and almost no permanent inhabitants — just wild Adriatic nature at its most unspoiled. Reaching Biševo from Makarska takes around two and a half hours each way, making it a true full-day expedition reserved for those who want the very best.

FAQ
Biševo — Frequently Asked Questions
The Blue Cave is most spectacular between 11:00 and 12:00, when sunlight enters through the underwater passage at the perfect angle, creating the famous electric-blue glow. We time our departure from Makarska accordingly, setting off at 8:00 AM to arrive at the right moment.
Swimming inside the Blue Cave is not permitted — access is strictly managed to protect this natural wonder. Entry is by small wooden motorboat only. There is, however, a beautiful bay just outside where you can swim and snorkel.
Access depends on sea conditions. In choppy weather the underwater entrance becomes impassable and the cave is closed. We monitor conditions daily and will notify you of any changes.
